PolyOrgs Certification Program
The PolyOrgs certification system is the most recognized credentialing framework in the professional polyurea and protective coatings industry in North America. Our multi-tier program takes applicators from foundational competency to advanced specialty work — with credentials that commercial clients, municipalities, and insurers recognize and request.
Why Certification Matters
Polyurea is a high-performance system. Done right, a polyurea lining lasts 20+ years and performs in environments where everything else fails. Done wrong, it’s a warranty nightmare, a regulatory violation, or a failed EPA inspection. Commercial clients and procurement managers know the difference — and they’ve learned to verify credentials before signing contracts.
In our annual survey, 78% of commercial facility procurement managers said verifiable certification is their #1 selection criterion when hiring an applicator. See the full survey results.
Certification Levels
Level 1 — Certified Polyurea Applicator (CPA)
The foundational credential for professional polyurea work. Level 1 covers:
- Polyurea chemistry fundamentals: reactions, cure mechanism, formulation variables
- Equipment operation: proportioners, heated hoses, spray guns, transfer pumps
- Surface preparation standards (SSPC/NACE/ICRI equivalent)
- Application technique: spray patterns, film build, multiple-pass work
- Quality control: wet film gauging, holiday testing, adhesion testing
- Safety: PPE requirements, respiratory protection, chemical handling
Format: 16-hour online curriculum + written examination + practical assessment (completed at a PolyOrgs chapter session or approved testing center)
Prerequisites: None. Open to all applicants.
Cost: $295 for PolyOrgs members / $445 for non-members (includes 6-month membership)
CEU Value: 16.0 CEUs upon completion
Level 2 — Advanced Certified Applicator (ACA)
For established applicators ready to take on complex commercial and industrial projects. Level 2 adds:
- Advanced formulation selection: hybrid systems, aliphatic vs. aromatic specification
- Complex substrate assessment and remediation
- Job costing and specification writing
- Client reporting and quality documentation
- Troubleshooting: diagnostic procedures for adhesion failures, film defects, equipment problems
Format: 24-hour curriculum + examination + field project documentation review
Prerequisites: Active Level 1 certification + 12 months verified field experience
Cost: $395 for active PolyOrgs members
Level 3 — Master Applicator (MA)
The highest individual certification in the PolyOrgs program. Level 3 is held by fewer than 200 applicators in North America and is widely recognized as a mark of exceptional professional standing.
Prerequisites: Active Level 2 + 3 years field experience + two verified complex project references + passing a comprehensive oral examination panel
Cost: $595
Specialty Endorsements
Any Level 2 or higher applicator can add specialty endorsements to their credential. These endorsements are increasingly required by commercial clients in regulated industries.
| Endorsement | Code | Key Application Segments |
|---|---|---|
| Secondary Containment | L2C | Oil & gas, chemical, industrial |
| Potable Water Systems | PW | Municipalities, water districts, food processing |
| Roofing Systems | RS | Commercial flat roof, cold-storage |
| Ballistic & Bullet Containment | BC | Gun ranges, military facilities |
| Cold Climate Application | CC | Below-grade, northern roofing, freeze-thaw environments |
| Potable Water Storage — Above Ground | PWS | Water towers, elevated tanks |
| Marine & Immersion Service | MS | Offshore structures, boat hulls, docks |
Each endorsement requires completion of a 4-8 hour specialty curriculum and a practical or written assessment. CEU values range from 4.0 to 8.0 per endorsement.
CEU Requirements (Certification Maintenance)
Active certification requires 8.0 CEUs per calendar year for Level 1, 12.0 for Level 2, and 16.0 for Level 3. CEUs are earned through:
- PolyOrgs chapter meeting attendance (1.0 CEU per qualifying meeting)
- Completing online technical modules (available in the member portal)
- Attending regional or national PolyOrgs symposiums
- Third-party industry training (with pre-approval)
Note: the 2026 certification update introduced new specialty endorsement competency requirements. Read the full update here.
Training Resources
All enrolled members receive access to:
- The PolyOrgs technical library (50+ manuals, data sheets, and application guides)
- The monthly Ask the Expert column (archived back to 2021)
- Chapter meeting recordings (past 24 months)
- The member discussion forum (moderated by Level 3 applicators)
