Technical Focus: Protecting Concrete Surfaces in Freeze-Thaw Climates

For members working in northern regions, polyurea continues to demonstrate superior performance in freeze-thaw cycling environments compared to epoxy and conventional coatings. A recent field study of polyurea-coated bridge decks in Minnesota and Wisconsin showed negligible delamination after five winters of service — an outcome that has prompted several state DOTs to update their bridge coating specifications. Members interested in bridge and infrastructure work can access the full case study in the PolyOrgs Technical Library (Member Portal login required).
